So I was waitlisted at both Wesleyan and BU. For me, Wesleyan seems like a much better fit. I know I can’t be picky at this point, but if I get into neither I’m going to my state school.

So, what should I do if BU calls me and asks me to make a snap decision? I could risk my chances at Wesleyan, but I could also end up getting into neither if I were to say no. This is hypothetical of course, because I haven’t heard from either yet?

Unless i’m incorrect, you dn’t get offered a “snap decesion.” You should call Wesleyan and express your interest and ask if they would erad an additonal rec

Well I don’t know if it works this way at BU, but I went for an interview at Wesleyan after being waitlisted, and she said that if accepted, I will receive a phone call and be asked to decide on the spot. It sounded kind of strange, I’ll admit, but I wasn’t about to argue with her about it ;)

well, if u think ud be happier at Wesleyan, then say no to BU. If BU is almost as good and ur happym there, then jump on it

I would be much happier at Wesleyan. I was just fearing the idea that I say no to BU and then ultimately get rejected by Wes.

then make the call, if u end up at a CC, will u hate it? because, if ur willing to goto a CC in the attempt to goto Wasleyan,… thats the Q u shd think abt

It’s not a community college, it’s URI, my state college. But yeah, your point still applies.

and your answer is?

so, then its solvd. If ur willing to goto URI as a last resort of a failed attempt at Wesleyan,. then say no to BU

I suppose you’re right. I was just hoping for a magic answer I guess. :)

i wish thee the best of luck :)

Thank you. I sure as hell need it.

i might be missing something (i didnt go through the waitlist process myself), but why would accepting the bu waitlist offer prevent you from eventually accepting one from wesleyan? i understand the potential moral issues here, but, agan, am missing something if theres more to it than that.

Sorry, it was probably poorly phrased. I meant if BU offers me admission, but I have not yet heard from Wesleyan, where I would rather go.

i understand that. but have you not accepted an offer of admission from uri? im just wondering if theres something legally binding (similar to early decision) involved with waitlists. if not, i dont see what the difference is.

Well, like I said above, when I visited Wesleyan they said if I was accepted off the waitlist, I would be called and acked to decide on the spot. I was thinking that I may encounter a similar situation with BU.

it still doesnt address my point. is bu going to call wesleyan if you hypothetically say ‘yes’ to bu over the phone? are you going to call wesleyan? worst case scenario that i can envision is that you end up paying an extra security deposit in the very unlikely circumstance that you are admitted to both, with bu offering first.

…again, unless theres something binding here that im missing… like bu requiring you to forfeit your position on all other waitlists if they admit you or you accept.

Oh, I see what you’re saying. No, I suppose they couldn’t make something over the phone legally binding. That’s a very good point.
