Question: Road to Medical School

Option One: UCLA >>> JHU Med
Really Really Hard, but looks really good when finding a job

Option Two: UCR >>> UCLA Med through the joint program [Thomas Haider Program] that guarantees admission to UCLA med school if you are accepted for this “selective” program
Easier than Option 1, but still pretty hard to get accepted into this program and guarantees admission to a med school, which is nice and also lets you finish the long, hard journey to becoming a doctor in only 7 years or so (depending on how long it takes you to take the MCAT)

Which do you think would be better? Any other ideas/suggestions?

UCR/UCLA is 8 years now. You don’t save squat. Half your medschool is taught at UCR. Have you visited the UCR campus?? Might want to check it out, and don’t forget your kidney basin, because you’ll need something to throw up into. Do you like trailers? Cuz if you do, your MS2 year is taught in a trailer. Don’t drink the water.

I’ve heard that the UCR/UCLA program is VERY, VERY difficult to get into. Cut-throat competition among the students for the few select spots. Besides, I haven’t heard great things about UCR either. Definitely visit.
I would forgo this program and opt for regular UCLA, with the hope of getting into JHU’s med school (fully realizing that it will not be easy or even possible).

Thnx guys…is UCR really THAT bad? lol

UCR is awful.

Look. If you can “suck it up” for 4 years of UCR undergrad, plus another 2 years of UCR “Med school,” JUST to have 2 years of clerkships at UCLA Schol of Medicine, by all means. Kiss your happiness goodbye, forget about meeting interesting and motivated individuals like yourself, and say hello to dirt, tumbleweed, orange trees, the smell of cows, and an education that wouldn’t challenge a buffoon.
