questionable advice from SAT tutor?

My son had previously done well on PSAT without leaving questions out (800) M,
750 (CR),700 (W),

He was aiming for a 2300, so as not to take SAT 1 again, his tutor told him he could leave several out(which he had not done before) He left between 4-6 out on CR and 4 out on W. My question, what is the highest score he could get with omitting these out? Will a lower score threaten his possible Merit chances? Should we cancel? Thanks so much!

On cr, the most would be around a 770 while in writing, with a perfect essay, would be around a 780.
