Questions about Art Suppliments

I was totally confused by the below paragragh on the college website:
“encase slides in “9*11” plastic sleeves. The top of the work shown must be at the top of the slides”. Since I am an international students, I find the terminology used for description is not what I can understand. Can anyone give me any detailed explanation about the desinated medium and arrangements of the picture?
THANKS :)

The “sleeves” are vinyl pages, with formed pockets to accept slides. These are available at many hobby shops and photography specialty stores and websites. Each page is 8.5 inches in width and 11 inches in height. The individual formed pockets that will hold the slides are arranged in a series of rows and columns on the page “or sleeve”. The link here [url=http://shop.dominoplastics.com/photo-pages.html]Wholesale Vinyl & Plastic Products, CD Sleeves, Job Ticket Holders, Page Protectors, & More - Domino Plastics, Inc./url illustrates a slide protector sleeve page.

Arrange the slides so that they are all in viewing position, and the user would not have to turn the page, or reposition the slide.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for violadad for your extensive explanation  !
