- What are the PE requirements at BUA (is it once or twice a week for 9th/10th grade?)
- I know that BUA doesn’t offer AP courses, but do they host AP exams?
- Also, how large are the typical BU classes that BUA students attend in 11th/12th grade?
- Finally, can students get permission to enroll in a BU class early, in 9th or 10th grade?
Thank you!
These will be very fast answers from their admissions office if you email.
But my understanding as someone whose kid applied:
- I believe it is 2x (but may vary depending on the offering you select). I also believe you can get exemptions if you are very competitive in some outside athletic pursuit.
- Not sure, I think they might for kids taking equivalent of Calc AB and BC (course descriptions do reference the tests, but not 100%). I’d be curious about 11th US history, but I bet they don’t as they don’t want to teach to the test.
- I believe this will vary depending on the course. If you are taking an advanced literature in Japanese it will be different than Econ 101 (or whatever). I do know BUA has staff to help guide students to specific BU classes. I have a friend whose kids go there and she said the person is fantastic and leads you to excellent BU professors and courses. the BU website may have averages!
- I believe so, but only in rare occasions if you are placed out of the math or latin/greek offered at BUA (maybe science). I also don’t think you can add extra classes, if that is what you meant.
Thank you! Is your kid going?
Not decided yet, but probably.
And you? sounds like you are deciding?
Is your child attending BUA?
just saw this… Yes! Can’t say enough good things about it.
And reading my old answers…
The PE thing is only 1x a week not 2x like I had said…
Great to hear! We are still waiting for BUA acceptance decisions. March 10th can’t come soon enough:) we are keeping our fingers crossed….
Is your kid participating in any sports at BUA?
Hi there! I would rather not say if they participate or not as grades are so small and try to be anonymous on here.
I highly recommend you ask admission to set you up with a parent of a kid (or kid!) who participates in the sport you are interested in…
Also, if you haven’t looked they have bizarrely good social media at BUA.
I think there are more!
Also congrats! Sounds like someone got in:)? And with record breaking applicant pool too!
Thank you for the links, highly appreciated!
Not sure how big the applicant pool was…seems it has been increasing in recent years at every good private high school…
I don’t know # of applicants, or even ballpark. The keep that pretty secret, I think. I tried pretty hard last year to find a good number and didn’t.
I did find a data point that applications increased by 1/3 a few years back, and think they have just kept climbing year after year. Also, as yield has risen, too, I am sure it is a much much lower rate than it was 5+ years ago. But that is 100% conjecture, truly.
