Questions about Cornell that I want to clear up?

You can apply to a certain undergrad school but also minor in a subject in another undergrad school, right?

This is more of a general college question, but is it true that if you take the ACT, you don’t have to take the SAT II tests? Does Cornell require SAT II tests if you take the ACT?

Does anyone know what SAT II tests Cornell wants? I tried looking but I can’t find it. I’m planning to major in either animal science or biology, or a foreign language…that is, if I get in. Anyway College ******* said for certain undergraduate schools at Cornell, you have to take an SAT subject test in each of the writing, math, and science subjects. I just want to get this cleared up…

To answer your first question…it depends on the minor. Some are offered to all undergrads regardless of their college, while others are only available to specific colleges.

For question 2 and 3, you can find Cornell’s official policy here:
http://admissions.cornell.edu/forms/FreshmanRequirementsChart.pdf</a></p>

So for question 2, yes, you are required to take SAT II even if you take the ACT with writing. ACT without writing is not accepted.

For question 3, it’s up to you what SAT II tests you want to take. For Arts&Science, they recommend 1 math and 1 sci. Different colleges require/recommend different SAT subject tests to be taken. The details can be found on the link above. I hope this clarifies everything.

you should take those subjects as you said, you are planning to major in. it makes the most sense, plus you are probably best at those subjects as well. why not take biology + that foreign language. perfect. cornell only wants two sat2s.

think about this: what is the purpose of showing that you master physics and chemistry, or math when you plan to major in biology and minor in spanish. it just doesn’t make sense, right?

Have you already applied?

I haven’t applied, I’m still a junior in high school. And do you guys know if there is an animal science minor that’s available for students in the college of arts and sciences (in Cornell)? How about biology? Sorry for all the questions, I keep confusing myself on Cornell’s page

without a doubt, there is a biology minor you can take from arts and sciences. biological sciences (aka biology) is a major in arts and sciences, and it has a minor as well: [Cornell Biology :: Core Requirements](<a href=“Biological Sciences | CALS”>Biological Sciences | CALS)

animal science also appears to have a minor, and since I don’t see anything specifically specifying, I would say it’s probably available to you in arts and sciences: [Cornell University Department of Animal Science](<a href=“Animal Science | CALS”>Animal Science | CALS)
