Questions about Dorm Life/Tuition/etc

Dorm Life:

 1. How do most people protect themselves from laptop theft? Do the desks that are already in the dorm rooms have lockable drawers?

2) Are the hall bathrooms well equipped enough to prevent any lines from forming during the morning hours/etc.? I.e., enough mirrors/shower stalls/etc. How much privacy is afforded (any comments from people living in Couzens would be appreciated)?

3) Are microwaves allowed? I know some universities where I live don’t allow them.

Weather:

 1. Are dorms/lecture halls well-heated? During the winter, do students wear sweaters/layers in-doors, or t-shirts/etc.? Are sweaters only required outside?

Tuition:

 1. The Fall term payment is due on September 30th, correct? How much is it, exactly? I can’t seem to find it. Out of state, LSA undergrad.

More questions to come. :)

1) buy a laptop lock. They’re like 20 bucks. my desk didn’t have a lockable drawer.

2) I lived in fletcher and there were about as many people as there were showers.

3) Yes, microwaves are allowed.

1) Yes, they are well heated. I’m from Florida so I wore sweaters all the time.

I went to this website. Does this (First Hour/Additional Hours) mean I will only know the exact amount of my tuition after I choose my schedule? That will make it rather difficult for my parents to know how much to pay, and they can’t stay in Michigan for very long (I have the August 28th-30th orientation). I guess they could just leave a blank check.

Thanks for your answers.

This may give you an exact idea of your tuition provided you take less than 18 credits.

Microwaves are allowed , you can rent a fridge/microwave combo through housing.

And I’ve heard laptop locks are useful

The first hour/additional hour is if you were a part-time student and taking less than 12 credits. It is almost certain that you’ll be taking 12-18 credits and will be considered a full-time student.

I’ve never heard of any problems with dorm security, as far as laptops. The doors automatically lock behind you and are pretty secure, so as long as you don’t keep your door open when you leave for extended periods of time, you should be fine.

I think all of the dorm rooms have a thermostat so you can crank up the heat if you want, but even without it the temperatures inside are fine. The past two years I’ve occasionally even had my window cracked open in the middle of winter to cool things down some.

I think the only time I’ve had to wait for a shower is after coming back from a soccer game, and that’s only because it was a house team. Then again, I’ve never been one to shower in the morning, so for all I know it’s crowded then.

I also have a question. I’ll be taking 18.5 cr. winter term (I changed my schedule). How does tuition work for the half credit? I pay tuition to Ross.

Don’t you guys have tuition up on the “due charges” (or might be account summary, I forget) under Wolverine Access?

i heard its realllly hot in the dorms…
isnt there a problem of keeping things cool rather than keeping things heated?

get a fan or somehting to be cool and for circulation , it can get a bit stufy

There’s this thing that’s gonna happen in a few months called “winter”. I hear it can get a bit chilly then around here.

stop being pussies. it is not hot. if you think it’s hot, go to starbucks or somehting.

oh, and i’m taking under 18 credits this semester. I’m wondering what the tuition will be for 18.5 cr. in the winter semester.
