Questions about Graded Writing Sample

Hi!
I have a couple of questions, as the title says.

  1. Can it be a sample from last year? Is this discouraged?
  2. What if we haven’t had any large essay assignments in History/English yet? Would it be okay to submit an essay from Science class?
  3. How important is the graded writing sample in general? Is it more or less important than the short answers and essays?
  4. What if I feel like all of the essays I’ve done this year are not representative of my best work? What should I do?
