Questions about Hegeman for current Brown students

I’m a rising sophomore who was on the housing lottery waitlist, and was just assigned to a suite of 3 singles in Hegeman. Because I only found out yesterday, I didn’t have a chance to visit the room earlier. And I can’t check the floor plans online either because Res Life took it down and it would only be available when its time for the next housing lottery.

So I was hoping if anyone could give me an idea of what Hegeman suites are like. I’ve never been in there before and it didn’t occur to me to visit them since rising sophomores don’t really get a chance at getting them. If anyone could describe the size of the rooms, furniture, common room, lounge, kitchen etc, it would be fantastic. I’m also rather curious on whether theres any socializing between the suites. I was from Littlefield, so I’m really used to large carpeted comfortable rooms and walk in closets and a really friendly and close knit unit; would I be disappointed with Hegeman?

I also heard something about Hegeman’s kitchen not having stove tops, and I’m hoping someone will tell me it’s not true. I’m definitely going off the meal plan and would be cooking alot, a kitchen without a stove sounds rather useless, I can’t really microwave everything.

BTW, is there a Brown forum/community for current students that I can post and ask questions other than the Daily Jolt?

Thanks :)

hegeman suites do not include a kitchen… theres a common kitchen for the building. the suite includes a common room with space for a sofa and few chairs. the singles are pretty small.

Hegeman is technically a triple, since the singles aren’t lockable. Just a heads up, in case you don’t know your roommates. The singles are really small. I think the stoveless kitchens you’re referring to are in Minden, not Hegeman.

Rabo’s right on the stoveless kitchen-- that’s Minden.

Other than that, to reiterate-- small as **** singles attached to a common room with a couch basically.

It’s an upperclassman dorm-- the feel will not be nearly as open and social as Littlefield or Keeney, etc.

I lived in Hegeman last year as a Junior. It was absolutely amazing! The location is great, it takes about 1 minute to get to any place on campus worth going. The rooms are carpeted which make it feel nice and cozy, and the ceilings are very very high. The rooms are small – but with the huge ceilings they feel big. The common area is also great. As for the stove, hegeman does not have one or it was broken last year, but everyone has access to caswell – rigth next door for your cooking needs. I’m jealous you got hegeman as a sophomore – you should squat your suite for next year.

As for the social factor, there really is no such thing as a “unit” anymore after freshman year. Everyone is very nice, but since Hegeman consists of all (well-almost all) juniors, most people have a solid group of friends already.

it really depends on your preference, but in terms of location, Hegeman is hard to beat.

thank you for all of your replies. they definitely help in giving me a sense of what im in for.
