Questions about Industrial Design Field

A few questions and concerns about the industrial design field:

Would it be better to attend an expensive art school like RISD to major in it or cheap state school?

If I go to VTech next year I pay about $2600. I’ve yet to receive my financial statement from RISD, but because I’m on the priority waitlist, I don’t expect much.

Should I be expecting grad school in my future?

If I go to an expensive school, would my salary be okay enough to pay off all of my debt? Say, $150k debt (this one’s for Carnegie Mellon, also priority waitlisted).

I am a high school senior and the deadline for deciding where I’ll be heading is very soon.
Slamming a bunch of questions into one post probably isn’t the best idea, but I’d greatly appreciate it if you address the questions that you can.

Thank you!

I’m not an expert on industrial design, but my daughter is in the field, having graduated last june. You are in the architecture forum where people complain about the low starting wages, well industrial design is even more competitive, with lower starting salaries, and typically located in high cost cities (New York, SanFrancisco, Seattle, London). I cannot imagine starting in this field with a heavy debt burden. You will have very few options.

I don’t believe grad school is as prevalent as it is in architecture where most people need it for registration.
