Can an IR major lead to a career in the US?

and

Can IR lead to law school

thanks!

No, the Supreme Court banned US companies from hiring International Relations majors in 1981, RE: Schmidt V. City of Tulsa.

The issue is considered settled case law.

not even like in the state department

I don’t want to say it’s impossible, but it’s extremely rare for the State Department to hire a non-US Citizen. Afterall, this is OUR government and those jobs should go to OUR citizens.

Plus, hiring a non-citizen is a major security risk and adjudication becomes a major headache.

The first question on a federal employment application is, “Are you currently a United States Citizen.”

I’m sure your own country (assuming you aren’t American) has some diplomatic agency that you can work for.

And that answer is actually true.

I am an american though

well, any major can land a job in the US -some are harder than others. But of course and IR major can get a job. Is this really what you’re asking?

then again, pretty much anything can lead to law school it’s a matter of GPA+LSATs that are probably going to determine your admissions. Almost anything can get you there, there’s engineers, doctors, whatever major people entering law school.

this is a joke, pat

By the way, what’s the difference between internatonal studies and international relations

Yes, but not easily unless you have great professional experience/graduate from a top school/get a graduate degree

Yes. IR traditionally was its own field, but is now predominately considered a subfield of political science. Poli Sci Major is the bulk of law school applicants. Regardless, any major can apply to law school. Even BME or EE and so on…
