Questions about maintaining a high GPA from the start of Freshmen year

So I got my grade back and I got a high 3.9 GPA for my first quarter of Freshmen year. I am extremely proud of this, BUT I am also worried about the future years. I am planning for medical school and really, the classes will only get harder from here. I am assuming I will be dropping probably by .1~.2 here and there and my grades will reflect that.

How bad would it look to see I went from a 3.9 freshmen year to say a 3.7 or even 3.5 senior year. I am sure I do not want to do that, but if the situation arises (because professors and their grading scale) will it look bad? I don’t want to be defined as one of that student that is on a “downward” trend as opposed to an upwards…

Or overall, does it not really matter?

Congrats on your strong start. Just keep putting forth your best effort and don’t worry about things that haven’t happened yet. Med schools do understand that there are some very difficult courses down the road.

One quarter at a time, just get up everyday and do the best you can that day. Great start!

It depends on the difficulty of the classes. Whatever year you take Organic Chemistry is anticipated to be the lowest.
