<p>Because I’m a student, I don’t really have any “inside” information about this topic, but I can explain the information available to the public.</p>
<p>Because Derryfield doesn’t report GPA or rank to colleges (this is one of the students’ favorite things about Derryfield. If you are interested, you can read more about why we do it in this article: [The</a> Derryfield School ~ The Law of Averages: why Derryfield does not have a GPA](<a href=“http://www.derryfield.org/podium/default.aspx?t=204&nid=866975]The”>http://www.derryfield.org/podium/default.aspx?t=204&nid=866975)), we send them a copy of our “school profile” which includes the middle 50% of SAT scores. Because we write up a different school profile each year, I can’t give you an overall average SAT score, but I can tell you that the averages for my class, the current seniors, are:</p>
<p>550 - 660 for critical reading
540 - 670 for math
550 - 660 for writing</p>
<p>Additionally, 4 members of our 67-person class received NMSQT letters of commendation for their PSAT scores. <p>As far as college acceptances go, we have had a 100% college acceptance rate for too many years to count. Around 70% of students report being admitted to their top choice every year, and around 90% say that they were accepted to one of their top three choices. Every fall, we have tons of admissions counselors come specifically to talk to and answer questions from Derryfield students. Another important fact to note is that our guidance counselor is separate from our college counselor. At most schools I have seen, this is not the case. But splitting up the counseling job into two parts really allows each counselor to focus on their own area of expertise. Our college counselor is amazing and has written articles for the New York Times before. </p>
<p>The most popular colleges to which students apply and enroll at varies every year. Last year, the most common place of enrollment for seniors was Elon University. From 2008 to 2012, the most common colleges to which students were accepted included: Bates, Brandeis, Colby College, Cornell, Northeastern, UNH, and the University of Vermont. It’s also relatively common for students to apply to college and take a gap year before attending. Most students will use this time to intern, travel, or work (a good friend of mine worked three or four jobs for a year before attending the University of Chicago this fall).
