Questions about UCLA's academic calendar for 2010-2011

So I was looking at it and I’m a little confused.

What are “common final exams”?
How are they different from “final examinations”?

And what’s a study list?

Common Final Exams:

Some teachers do multiple lectures of the same class. However, they do not want to make separate tests and wish to grade both classes together. As a result, they give the same final to all their students from multiple classes.

For example, last quarter my teacher taught two Math 115A classes. One from 11-12, and the other 12-1. Both classes had the same midterm on the same day but technically the class from 11-12 took it “first.” (Though this wasn’t really a problem since there wouldn’t be enough time for someone from the later class to get the questions from someone from the earlier class). Despite having classes at different times, both classes had their final on Saturday at the same time. He also graded both classes together, so you weren’t just competing against people in your class but with people in the other class as well.

Study List:

This is a “list” of all the classes and discussions you are enrolled in. It can be found on MyUCLA. You will learn more about it and other features of MyUCLA when you go to orientation.
