questions about UCSD+revelle

1- do you live in dorms your second year?

2- do you stay in dorms during the summer quarter?

3- are the RAs in the dorms really strict? I heard that they often report parties… are there a lot of “substances” flowing around dorms/parties?

4- does the application checklist ever update? i have my SATs on file and i sent my hep B waiver form, but the there are no checks … i sent an email to admissions but told me i can check the scores they have on file on tritonlink, but i already knew that, and they did not answer my question.

5- when you send your verification tax forms do you ever hear back from the finacial aid office? i sent the email asking if they had gotten my documents, but they never responded.

6- can you take your video game system to the dorms? even in you live with 1 or 2 roomates?

7- are there close movie theaters around revelle/universisty?

thank you for your answers :D

Yes, you can live in dorms during your 2nd yr.

If you attend summer session, yes you can stay in dorms.

You should call the admissions office so they can pull up your file to check.

You should call the financial aid office. They are really helpful.

Yes, you can bring video games.

7.

1- Most second years live in the on-campus apartments, which are WAY better than the dorms. Some still opt to live in the dorms, but not too many.

2- You have to apply for summer housing. Even if you attend summer session, you’re not guaranteed summer housing, I’m pretty sure.

3- Depends on your RA. The RA’s are students too, so they’re usually a lot more lenient than say, the RSO’s (duh). They know a lot of students drink and party, and they generally are not very snoopy or strict. But they are obligated to report you if you’re so blatant about breaking the law that they actually catch you :/. I don’t have much experience with this one though, since I don’t do anything like that.

4- The checklist usually takes a while to update, especially for transcript verification and SAT score verification and a couple other ones I forgot. I was worried too, since nothing seemed to be updating, but they all update in time if you’ve done/sent everything they’ve asked for.

5- No idea.

6- Most people, if they bring video games, leave them in the suite common area, which is usually where the televisions are. I haven’t seen too many TV’s in rooms. But yes, you’re allowed to bring them.

7- Yes. There’s one within walking distance of campus, actually, in La Jolla Village Square. Not too long of a walk… 20 minutes? Something like that.

ah thanks for the answers.

wouldnt leaving the videogames in the common area be unsafe? or are there like lockers with locks? (sister said there were lockers to put valuables at ucla, but i dunno about ucsd)

Not really; there are locks on the suite doors. And I haven’t really heard about any video game thefts, anyway.

Unfortunately, it has happened. All the rooms near the Pangaea parking structure were broken into one year and televisions, laptops, and game consoles were taken. But obviously, that’s not in Revelle.

That sucks, but that means that they broke into the rooms, too, so storing the video games in the room wouldn’t have been any safer than the suite.

just get a VGA cable and plug in your system to your PC monitor or laptop. No need for a TV then. This is what i’m doing.

the theater at price center shows pretty recent movies for $3 2-3 nights a week. some movies this quarter are music & lyrics, night at the museum, eragon, epic movie, hannibal rising, letters from iwo jima…
