questions dropping out of college

i’ve been earning very bad grades at college. is it possible to drop out and then start over?

i currently attend UCSD, and have just finished my first year there. i didn’t like the school from the beginning and couldn’t seem to do well there. i’ve done everything i could to make myself fit in, such as finding a job and joining a sorority, but i still don’t seem to like ucsd. as a result, i have received very bad grades. i feel that if i continue school here for the next three years, i’d continue to be unhappy and perform poorly.

please, someone tell me what i should do. i’m very lost right now.

Ehh, I’d say, stop being such a perfectionist, and just get on with doing your best the next few years.

Uhhhh… what?

To the OP, I’d say what the poster above me said, I don’t know if you can drop out and restart at a reputable college (you could definitely drop out and get a worthless education from University of Phoenix, but please don’t do that) but you may be able to start at a CC if you really need to drop out. I’d contact a CC if you really want to drop out (which I don’t think you should, but I don’t know your whole situation). But I’ve heard that UCSD doesn’t have the best college environment so don’t feel too bad.

You can consider doing this: [Leave of Absence/Withdrawals](http://ogs.ucsd.edu/academic-affairs/academic-progress-policies/leave-of.html)

Maybe you just need a year off to do some soul searching and figuring out some personal feelings or issues.

I agree with ted and UCSD. Either transfer to a community college closer to home so you can figure out your whole situation, pick up your grades, and then perhaps transfer somewhere else or take some time off to gather yourself and then go back, a more mature person, and do well academically regardless of the surrounding situations.
