Questions on admissions appeal

I am appealing an admissions decision at The University of Tennessee at Martin due to a low GPA. It has been about 4 years since I have been enrolled in school and I am ready to go back and finish my degree in Wildlife Biology. Due to an un-diagnosed learning disability and a few other factors, I struggled through my previous coursework and decided that college wasn’t the right path for me at the time. This may not have been my best idea but it is what it is and at the time it was what I needed to do. At the time of my last semester my GPA was a 2.9 and I had completed 33 credits.

Well long story short, I received a call from the Admissions Director today regarding my admission appeal package (letter, resume, and personal statement). Unfortunately, I am traveling home for the holidays and was on a plane when she called. I called back as soon as I got the message but she was already gone for the weekend. The admissions office reopens on Tuesday and I plan to call back ASAP.

I am assuming that because I received a phone call that means I haven’t failed just yet. The UTM appeals worksheet says that I will be emailed if I have been denied. It does not state anything about how I will be contacted if I am successful or admitted. I have a feeling that this call means that there is a good chance that that admissions director wants to interview me or get further information.

Has anyone else successfully appealed an admissions decision? What was your process like? Were you called by an admissions official and interviewed? What questions were asked? Any ideas of what I should prepare for?

I may be over thinking this too much but I am super excited to return to school. These past 4 years I have worked in my field, Wildlife Biology, and I love it. I made mistakes when I previously went to school and I am more than ready to put that behind me and succeed. If you can’t help answer my questions, good thoughts are always appreciated.

Thank you!
