okay sorry, i have like a million questions, so if you could answer any one of them it would be much appreciated…

1) admission…so main question is how likely it is that i will get in… i dont know if it helps but i am female and i’m a dual citizen of both the US and australia… out of state…sat scores (1st time, 2nd time scores havent gotten yet) 630 math and 630 reading… i’m in IB, my weighted gpa is a 4.8 or something, unweighted 3.6. umm extracurriculars: school volleyball, club volleyball, volleyball manager, volleyball coach of a youth team etcc… planning on doing water polo for senior year… beta club, spanish club and planning on doing math honor society for senior year… senior year classes (all ib): calculus, physics, spanish 4, english 4, american govt… since i’m in ib i’ll have 80 community service hours by the time i graduate… for ap exams i took ap psychology and ap english lit and for ib exams ib SL bio and ib SL pysch… don’t know my scores yet though…

2) campus life… basically, what do you guys do for fun? i know its atlanta so theres alot of shops restaurants movies etc but in general, if its a friday night, do the majority of people go out to clubs, have dorm parties, or just stay in? oh and is it true that you guys have Halo tournaments and stuff? sounds fun =)

3) do you guys interact with alot of emory students as well?

4) okay embarassing question… but is there a rubik’s cube club? because if not, i’d like to start one =P

5) someone told me that georgia tech has early notification but i searched their website and i didn’t see anything like that except you need to apply by october 31 for some kind of special program… but i was told that your regular application had to be in by oct 31 and you’d be notified within the first 2 months whether you got in or not… anybody want to clarify this for me?

Your SAT scores are OK. Your chances will improve if your 2nd test scores are higher.

Doing IB indicates rigorous coursework, which is also good.

It looks like you’re very passionate about volleyball. That’s much better than having a laundrylist of extracurriculars.

2.

I’m an incoming freshman, so I can’t answer this one.

3.

Ditto.

4.

I don’t think there’s one, at least I didn’t find one when I searched for it.

5.

Strictly speaking, GT is more “rolling admissions.” If you apply by October 31, which I highly recommend that you do, then they will notify you about your status as soon as possible.

I think you should be able to get in fine. GT basically does rolling admissions even though they don’t say they do on their website. If you didn’t get in you don’t find out until the very end, but otherwise pretty much the earlier you apply the earlier you will find out if you are in. I applied in mid November and found out I got in in mid February. I can’t answer much else though because I’m an incoming freshman.

1) very likely…GT has the habit of accepting a lot of people because the freshman attrition rate is so high. don’t worry, I got sub 1200 on my sat and got in

2) During the fall theres football games, band parties, people go out to restaurants, movies, intramurals, road tripping to away football games…there’s a lot of stuff to do, on and off campus. And yeah, there are halo tournaments

3) Depends, I only know a few…so not really

1) Yeah, I don’t think you’ll have a problem. I know people with lower scores and less qualifications who got in.
2) I don’t know, I’m an incoming freshman.
3) I think it depends if you have friends there and classes there. A lot of my high school friends visited their Emory friends quite often. Also, you might get some classes there if you do joint-enrollment (for like a 5 year program), or cross-registration.
4) I think there might be one, and if there isn’t a formal one, there’s probably a lot of informal ones. This guy from my high school who’s like nationally ranked in Rubix Cube goes there, so I’ll be surprised if they don’t have one.
5) Tech doesn’t really go outright and say that they’re “rolling” (which I made the mistake of asking when I went to an info session), but if you apply for the President Scholarship Program and/or the Honors Program (by October 31st), you find out whether you get in aroudn November. From then its a little weird, because they start releasing admissions like every few months (like once in February, March, May, etc.)
If you raise your ACT or SAT you should apply. I did and got both programs… and I’m underqualified. Plus, it’s only like two more 250 word essays.

1) 1260 SAT + 3.6 + 5 AP = maybe. If they take weighted GPA than acceptance.
2) freshmen experience I had fun with my hall. Life here is what you make but be prepare to study all night for certain class. There is Atlantic station near by and great restaurants all around. LAN party it was fun.
3) I met some Emory student through church gathering at Gatech. Emory for some reason doesn’t allow church gathering.
4) um wth?
5) well not in 2 months. Some students get theirs early
