I have been very interested in Tepper and plan to apply soon, would it be an advantage or disadvantage to apply via mail (I am going to apply to UCs online, but the common application and all of the other stuff looks intimidating, and I think the paper route might be better).

Also, when requesting for the application to be sent to your house, I had a few questions:
which college of CMU does tepper fall under? (there is no choice for tepper)

Lastly, they ask for rank, do they want percent? Actual number rank?

"would it be an advantage or disadvantage to apply via mail " Doesn’t matter, though there is always a risk of losing stuff via mail.

“which college of CMU does tepper fall under? (there is no choice for tepper)”
The Tepper School of Business, (tepper.cmu.edu)

“Lastly, they ask for rank, do they want percent? Actual number rank?”
Number out of the graduating class (Ie: 4/120), which makes it easy to figure out percent. Your guidance counselor should be the one sending that information, as well as your grades/transcripts.

^ Wrong… what do you mean by “house”? Either way its false. Under [Carnegie Mellon Directory](Directory Search - CMU - Carnegie Mellon University) freshmen are clearly defined as Business Administration students rather than General HSS students and there is no “dorm” for Tepper or HSS students as housing depends on a seniority and number basis.

People often use “housed” as in, they belong to a certain school. The term makes a bit of sense since you have a “home” department which you belong to, then your double major or dual degree would be in your non-home department.

I covered both definitions. Tepper kids are Tepper kids from the getgo. They belong to the Tepper school of business. HSS kids belong to General HSS during their first year. There is NO overlap. This is clear by going to the link I mentioned in my previous post. I will not type names of freshmen bmajors but you will see:
Name: xxxxxx
Department(s) with which this person is affiliated:
Business Administration
Student Class Level
Freshman

To make it clearer, you will have your OWN Business courses to fulfill such as Intro to Business, Business Freshmen seminar, Business intro to statistics/probability, etc all during freshman year. Plus, your advisor WILL NOT be a HSS advisor (you’ll be assigned to either Stephanie or Lauren). Their offices are in the Tepper School of Business.

The original poster mentioned no double major or dual degree so I don’t see how that is relevant in this case.

Also, I found out that I do not meet the requirements of Tepper, namely, I have not taken physics and I do not plan on taking a math SAT II. How strict are they on their requirements? Does it seem odd that physics is required for business?

Since I don’t meet the requirements, should i bother applying?

I don’t think they are that strict on the requirements. I think they just want to standardize education a bit and make sure all applicants are well-rounded.

Could you provide a link to where it says that the Physics subject test is required for Tepper? Never knew that.
