Questions on National Merit Scholarship at USC

I noticed the $500 per semester National Merit Scholarship award has not been applied to my payment plan yet, here are the questions:

1) Do I pay the full amount now and get reimbursed for $500 later?
2) When and how the $500 be delivered to us?

Thanks,

My statement doesn’t have the $500 National Merit Scholarship either…

National Merit Scholarship usually gets credited between Aug 15 and Sept 10. FA should know it’s coming and take that into consideration, ie: not charge you late fees if all other required funding is in. If you have any doubts or anymore questions, you can call or email FA and they are really good about explaining and helping you.

@psydent: based on “National Merit Scholarship usually gets credited between Aug 15 and Sept 10.”, does it mean we need to pay by August 20 for whatever amount in the statement, then we will get credited for $500 later?

If this is the case, do you know how they will credit $500 to our account? Thanks!

They’ll put $500 in your student’s fee account. If it means that the balance becomes a credit, they’ll make the money available to you. Otherwise it’ll just reduce the amount you have to pay.

I thought the National Merit Finalist award at USC was half-tuition?:

NATIONAL MERIT FINALIST PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Amount Half tuition (approximately $19,285)
Number of awards Varies
Notification date By April 1, 2010
Selection Criteria
Selected on the basis of PSAT performance. Entering freshmen are considered if they have been designated National Merit Finalists and name USC as their first-choice college with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Yes, it is half-tuition from USC. In addition to the half-tuition award from USC, National Merit Scholars also get $1,000 from The National Merit Corp., so the award ends up being 1/2 tuition PLUS $1,000. It is the $500 per-semester ($1,000 total per year) award from NMC that is being discussed in this thread - Don’t worry!
