Questions You Wished You Asked

What are the questions you wished that you researched more thoroughly or asked your admissions officer? What was something you found really helpful from your admissions officer or research? I don’t mean questions to impress admissions, I just mean information you don’t really think about that’s actually important.

It can be from the trivial (how do I practice my instrument as a boarder?) to the serious (can I go to a friend’s house during a weekend out? What sections of the school are single sex? etc).

Also, if you can find any threads (old or new) about this, could you please tell me?

Thanks.

This was very particular to the school I was applying to, but very worthwhile for it. The school only takes boys in the lower school, so almost all the new students would be girls. I wanted to know what it was like coming into a school where almost all the boys and girls had previously been at single sex schools. She said it was always hard. For the first few weeks of the year the boys got all macho because they were nervous and wanted to show off and the girls juts got more nervous because of this. It doesn’t sound great, so it really made me reconsider the school but I still wanted to go there.

It’s definitely worth asking what the environment’s like if there’s a skewed male:female population. Similarly what it’s like joining a school when most people have already been there, if you’re joining later than usual.
