questions

well… I have a few questions.

1) is there any place online where I can get at least a rough idea of the classes offered?

2) how is north hall? I’m staying there this summer in a program :P

3) can someone explain exactly what early decision is?

thanks in advance for all of your help :D

1) https://webapp.mis.vanderbilt.edu/CourseListing/MasterSchedule

2) Don’t worry about the dorms; they’re all decent.

3) Early decision is a binding early admissions program. You have a better chance of being accepted under early decision, but if you are accepted, you must attend. Since it is binding, you will have to take the financial aid package you get (don’t expect scholarships in ED), so you must be sure that you can afford the private school tuition or risk the possibility of bad financial aid (Vandy does have good financial aid packages). http://www.vanderbilt.edu/admissions/Archive02262007/apply.html

North Hall is pretty nice! (I’m living there next year). The rooms on the first and second floors have private baths. The only downside is that it’s far away from everything.

Does applying ED eliminate being eligible for merit aid?

Merit aid is used to entice the the applicant to attend their school. If you apply ED, then they have no reason to need to lure you into attending. However, if Vanderbilt is really where you want to attend, then consider what type of applicant you are. Merit aid is given out to only the very, very select at top 20 universities in most cases. A boy at my school had a 35 ACT, 4.0, hard classes, National Merit finialist, etc and recieved not one dime from Vandy.

If money is an issue and your EFC is high, then your best bet is to apply RD so you can consider your options of not only schools but scholarship packages as well.
