questions

i have some random questions would love to hear feedback.

how difficult is it to take popular classes that are not part of your major? for instance a film class? are some classes restricted to majors? Is there the possibility to take a class just to experience something just for fun?

to earn a 3.0 gpa how much time does a student need to study per week?
current students do you have a weekly study routine or find you cram? how popular are study groups? I keep telling my S to make sure he goes to every class that this is at the center of being a successful student. any thoughts?

how satisfied are students with advisors? do you seek out an advisor or stay with the one assigned?

Some courses are restricted to majors but there are also some courses available for non-majors/minors as well.

I think many students cram and still can get a 3.0. Students who want higher GPAs should keep up with regular reading and studying. Some students form study groups and some prefer to work alone. I agree that attendance and extra credit opportunities can help bring up a grade in a difficult course. The students who end up back in community college do not attend classes and are unable to handle the freedom and social life.

Some smaller majors only have one advisor and others have a group of advisors you can go see or email. If you follow the course requirements for your major and academic maps, you may not need much assistance with the advisor at all.

Professors often email students with opportunities for speeches from experts in their field and internships.

also does he visit professors or TA’s during office hours?

any hints on how to get my DS to take advantage of the above???I am all ears (@@)
___

The professors often offer extra credit to the entire class for example attending a seminar or movie outside of class or doing an extra paper. Class attendance not only obviously helps the student learn the material from listening to the lecture but some professors either give extra points for attendance or deduct points for missing class.

Read the syllabus carefully in the beginning of the semester and be aware of important deadlines, dates and course policies.
