We had some storm damage to our home. We have a rather high deductible, but it seems the expenses will be more than the deductible. The insurance company (Farmer’s) is telling us they will pay $150 per night per hotel and for meals out. Are there any other expenses they might cover (the insurance adjuster would not give me a straight answer to that question and is very unhelpful). Do we have to pay for the hotel and then get reimbursed? We have 6 people in our family Can we get more money to cover the cost of two hotel rooms? Fast answers appreciated as I have to decide where to stay ASAP.

I think you need to assume $150 is it for the hotel, but if there are other items you need covered (clothes if you had to get out before you could pack some, for example), it’s probably better to be specific when you call them back.

Some of this kind of information is written in the policies at my company, have you checked yours?

I believe you will have to put out the money and be reimbursed which will probably take weeks. Make sure you get a letter/email from them stating the per diem amount. The length of stay while unknown, will have a dollar limit which should be stated in your policy. Perhaps the hotel/motel will agree to be paid directly from you carrier.
