I calculated my EFC through collegeboard and it came out to be $13,058. I am entering my sophomore year at college, and I am looking to transfer by 2008. I’m not positive about where I want to transfer to, but say for example I choose the University of Arizona. Out-of-state tuition there is $14,960 and room & board is $7,850. It says that “financial need” is calculated by subtracting the cost of college from the EFC.

My question is when calculating financial need, is room & board counted towards financial need? So, is the cost of attending U of A considered to be $14,960 (tuition) or $22,810 (tuition + room & board)?

Information about school costs and standard “student budgets” can be obtained from financial aid and admissions brochures and catalogs provided by the college or university or by consulting college cost references such as those published by Peterson’s. Please enter the costs for a single year.

So, you’ll have around $8K in “need.” That might be met by some grants or scholarships but I’d bet you’ll have a nice load of loans, especially if you’re oos
