<p>It is commonly believed that the accomplishment of an activity is far more important than the struggles of the activity. This is understandable. After all, struggles and stories are harder to put on resumes in today’s world full of unemployed citizens. However, the struggle is actually much more important to the identity and life of a person. Since the adventure has a more satisfying effect, the struggles of overcoming the obstacle is more important than the goal.</p>

<p>Firstly, this concept is most clearly demonstrated in literature. For example, in ‘Sherlock Holmes’, Holmes enjoys the process of solving mysteries than claiming recognition. In the fourth book, Watson witnesses Holmes’ use of cocaine in order to satisfy his boredom. Holmes is always seeking a mystery or problem. Furthermore, he doesn’t care too much for the credit of solving a case. In the first book, Holmes successfully catches a criminal in his own living room. After asking a few questions, Holmes was happy letting the police take the culprit away. Even when Watson exclaimed the next morning that the police took all the credit, Holmes simply laughed it off. Therefore, Holmes attains far more satisfaction from solving the problem than from gaining recognition. </p>

<p>This common theme is also evident in real life. For example, Warren Buffett is a shrewd business man who enjoys bargaining for cheap stocks. While he cares for his wealth, Buffett enjoys haggling for stocks far more than simply gaining wealth. Early in his career, he would find valuable stocks no one liked. Once, he found a particularly lucrative stock. As he called the owner, Buffett kept his excitement under control and asked for a fairly low price. The owner decided to sleep on it. The next day, when the owner called back to sell his stock, Buffett decided on an even lower price. The owner slept on it again, and Buffett was happy to accept the sale the next day. He thoroughly enjoyed this process. Therefore, the progress of attaining a goal is much more valuable than the accomplishment.</p>

<p>Finally, this concept is again shown in Steve Job’s life. He cared much more about designing a product rather than just finishing the design and selling the product. For example, when he was designing the Apple stores, Jobs took months building and experiencing a fake store. Through these months of sharing and staying within the life-size model, Jobs perfected the design. While his employees hated the experience, they noted Jobs was always ecstatic to relax in the life size model of the store. Jobs clearly enjoyed the process of designing a store.</p>

<p>In summary, the struggle to achieve a goal is much more important than the accomplishment.</p>
