Between the regular Columbia tour and SEAS tour
whats the best option for a quick bite to eat?

Might as well find out about a classic on your first visit. On 112th and Broadway. One slice is all you’ll need.

McDonalds, for sure.

Um, I’ve downed 3 slices.

We have a hr between the end of one tour and the start of the SEAS tour…so its gotta be quick w/o heartburn ;o)

Are there any great ethnic food trucks in the area?

How about V&T (Local Italian joint at Amsterdam and 111th) or Symposium (Greek at 113th between Broadway/Amsterdam )? Service might be slow at the former, so tell them you’re in a hurry.

C2002, Maybe the slices have gotten smaller…

Thanks for the ideas
…we so do not want to do the golden arches for meals…

I know in some cities/areas there are great ethnic food trucks. Nothing like that nearby?

There are definitely carts with ethnic food but I don’t know how good they are.

The Halal food truck at 115th & Broadway (next to Morton Williams) makes some good lamb/chicken over rice, as well as falafel and a few other things. I would recommend it, especially for the lamb over rice.

how?

You should try the dosa guy on Bway and 115. Let me know how it is.

roti roll on amsterdam and like 109. luxurious, great atmosphere, good indian food.

When I went my mom and I wandered into Stokos, I think its called, which is literally a block away from campus. they had pizza and salads and all sorts of things and it was all delicious :)

and a lot of students were there so it gives a glimpse of what you could be doing when you go there! haha

I recently had my first and hopefully last roti roll.

Thanks for the replies…

The weather is supposed to be dreary, cold, rainy–
real late winter/early spring weather

SO if its raining–we will not do the food carts and will opt for warm food close by…so we will see…

Thanks for advice–good to get a perspective from eyes on the ground

Koronet isn’t particularly good, Stokos is expensive and, by my taste, wildly extravagant. Someone mentioned the Halal cart? Absolutely delicious. I don’t know if anyone mentioned the best darn sandwich shop in all of New York City:

HamDel! The Hamilton Deli is on Amsterdam just below 116th. If the weather is lousy, be warned, there’s no seating. HamDel is best enjoyed on Low Steps on a warm day.

Cart hot dogs and a Snapple.

Where are the best places to get sushi around campus?

I’m a bit sick of Vine. And I also do not want to get food poisoning.

ROFL! You’re a soph? No offense, but unless you’re a real foodie/chowhound and have really gone out of your way to get out of Morningside several times a week to explore NYC cuisine, you really have no basis for saying what the best sandwich shop is in “all of NYC.”

On that note, nobody who is serious about NYC food would regard Hami’s as the best sandwich shop in NYC or even put it in the conversation for the best anything in NYC. I’ve never seen Hami’s mentioned in a food article/blog. If anything, it’s in the conversation for the best sandwich shop on Amsterdam Ave. in the 110s (I personally think their sandwiches range from mediocre to crap.)

Here’s a non-exhaustive sampling of places you might want to try before declaring Hami’s to be the best in NYC:

How is the dining program for Columbia? I was just noticing that no one mentioned trying out any of the places on campus…

We can eat on campus (and pay cash), yes?
