<p>ravindu - Divide it into triangles to do it.</p>

<p>yeah its 5/8. Make the unshaded regions act as triangles. I also made the length and the width of the rectangle as 2 and 4 so the total area is 8. Using the midpoints stuff provided in the question plug in all the numbers on your triangles and find the area of both of them. Added together if you used my numbers you will get 3/8. This is the unshaded region though so obviously the shaded region is 5/8.</p>
