Quick Question: Dallas Airports

I’m booking a flight for work to Dallas, haven’t been before. Is there an advantage to DFW or DAL (Love)??? DAL is closer to the hotel I’ll be at…not sure if I’ll have a choice - I’d prefer to deal with the one that is logistically easier!

Booking through a conference so not sure what airline choices I’ll have if any choices.

Love Field is logistically easier if you’ll be in Dallas proper.

One thing to consider is cost and/or connections which might give an edge to DFW.

Well…I don’t believe Southwest flies to DFW. But it does fly though Love.

DAL has Alaska, Delta, Southwest, and Virgin America.

DFW is a hub for American, and has various other airlines, but not Southwest or Virgin America.

We live in the area and prefer flying Southwest so we always use DAL. It is a smaller and less crazy airport, so it’s much easier to get to/from and all. We only deal with DFW if we are flying international and have to use a different airline than Southwest.

Virgin America is kaput.

Thanks - can’t get through on the line I need to make flight reservations from yet so not sure of the airline choices at this point - Southwest would be great for me!

I’ll be staying at the Sheraton on North Olive Street if that matters…

“Virgin America is kaput.”

Alaska does not think so.

@abasket, if staying on Olive Street, DAL makes a lot more sense. But if you must come through DFW, it’s not really that big of an inconvenience. It’s a 20-30 minute drive, depending on time of day.

I second the recommendation to just use the closest airport, or whichever best suits your flight requirements.

Funny story from a seasoned traveller here in DFW - my very first time through that airport last year, I had to make a connection and could’t find my gate! Swear to god, the signs pointed me up an escalator and there was a little walkway, then another escalator back down. I walked around and up and down for 10-15 minutes in circles trying to find the darn gate! Then I took the exact same flights again a couple months later, figured I knew what to do this time, and still walked around in circles!

DAL is definitely much closer to your hotel.

I live northwest of Ft. Worth, so DAL is a much further drive for me than DFW. I still choose to fly in and out of DAL.

Was able to book through Southwest so I’ll arrive/depart out of DAL - sounds like the less complicated option!

Figuring I can catch an Uber from the airport? (making sure that Dallas is Uber friendly  )

Thanks for the info today!

@abasket,

Dallas is very Uber friendly. My D goes to school in Dallas and I fly into Love. It is one of my favorite airports.

One more DAL transportation question. No (easy) access to DART from DAL? I can definitely do Uber but don’t mind doing a light rail if there is direct access to the airport and hotel. From what I’m seeing, DAL is not set up for DART?

Any “must see” opportunities walking distance (or free trolley) from the downtown Sheraton on North Olive? Don’t know if I’ll have much free time but I like to browse if I have a chance. I am more likely to enjoy a park or outside feature than a museum. Or a great bakery/coffee house.

You’ll be in a great location. Lots of great dining spots around Deep Ellum although I am not up on the latest and hottest spots.

Check out the Giant Eyeball. Instagrammable.

JFK Memorial Plaza and the Sixth Floor Museum.

You can see if anything is on the schedule that interests you at the Meyerson.

Dallas Museum of Art.

You will avoid a lot of traffic using Love.

I always try to fly Southwest (I’m A List) which means DAL, which has become one of my favorite airports since it was remodeled a few years ago. Great food choices and they don’t gouge you. Very Uber friendly. I had a conference AT DFW and still flew into Love Field and Ubered over to DFW. I had a ride one way, actually, so it wasn’t as stupid as it sounds. Renting a car at DFW, which you won’t need anyway, is a hassle.

I’m flying Southwest also. Just want to take the best choice ride into the city! I’d rather do Uber than a cab! And the hotel is closer to DAL than the other airport. This will be my first Dallas trip!

A walk on Katy trail is a great way to be outside. Too many good restaurants to list! Especially in uptown.
