Does anybody here know how Wesleyan admits students? More specifically, do they admit students based on their intended field of study or is that irrelevant?

The reason I ask this is because if I were to attend Wesleyan, I would be doing the 3/2 Engineering program which I know only about 6-10 students are involved in. I believe because of that I may have a slightly better chance at being accepted, though thats assuming their admissions are based on field of study.

I don’t think it’s so much a matter of whether you major in one subject or another. Wesleyan can tolerate a lot of variation between Romance Language majors and American Studies majors and CSS majors. Wesleyan is probably more interested in knowing that you have some passionate academic interest.

However, that being said, it’s no secret that practically every LAC would LOVE to win more of their best science cross-admits from larger research universities.

As I’ve said many times before, some of those cross-admits are probably better off going where they go; a Wesleyan education might very well be a waste of time for them. Even leaving out the whole “do the TAs teach?” question, for the moment – if your idea of learning is to basically “never leave the science building” and that building is part of some complex in a distant corner of a mega-university – then, Wesleyan is probably not for you.

But, yea, Wesleyan, Amherst, Middlebury – practically every member of NESCAC – wants higher numbers of qualified math and science students.
