quick questions about my sat scores

I got a 2120. Reading 790 Math 710 Writing 620
I am wondering the sort of effect it will have on my app?
Also, I heard that SAT doesn’t look at writing. Is that true?
Last thing, is the effect of a low score (for MIT) nullified by other factors.
Will the low math (710) be a problem?

Pertinent Info…

I Know it’s a lot but i plan on taking them all (if anything, I will cut out the Jewish Studies, and Financial Markets)

Your senior courseload looks insane! You still have time to retake the SAT. Try to bring up that writing score - it couldn’t hurt. And what about your EC’s. I was admitted to MIT and I didn’t have nearly as much preparation in math and physics as you do. However, MIT still has a 8-course humanities requirement which means you’re going to have to be able to write good papers. So I would definitely bring up that writing score but otherwise, your academics look great!

Your SAT scores are far from low. Most colleges do not look at the writing portion. They take the reading and math scores so total is out of 1600.

Your senior course load is intense, but quite doable. Your SAT scores are weak (particularly math and writing), but I’ll just say now that I got admitted with a lower score than yours (2070 – 610 R, 800 M, 660 W). If you bring up your writing and math scores you shouldn’t be too bad.

Do you have any noteworthy EC’s or job/volunteer experience? If not, that may easily break your chances of admission atop everything else.

Thanks!
See, I was kind of nervous when I took it. I had been preparing for a while and my lowest practice was a 2350 (grammar being my achille’s heel) but I just goofed when it came to the real thing.

If you guys don’t mind…please re-evaluate with my ec’s and volunteer experience in mind

EC’s

  1. SNHS, 4 years
  2. MAO, 4 Years, 11th VP, Committee 12th Pres, 2 Committees
  3. Student Gov’t 3 Years, Student Officer (Leadership) 3 Years
  4. Business Club 3 years
    10th, 5th district
11, 3rd District , 1st State, top 99% in Economics in the World, top 99% in Management in the world

Volunteer 250 (may be a slight more by an hour or so)
Local Library 6 years
Boys and Girls Club near LA. 6 Years.

I don’t know if it counts but i have this personal motto creed that disagrees with turning in hours for helping people for moral grounds. I only got 250 because its a good number from what I’ve heard. is this something I should mention on apps? In total, I would have had 400hours at least 500 at most (but too late to count)

btw, if its any consolation I didnt mean for this to be a chance me thread

I wrote a big thing on another thread about why professional admissions counselors are valuable. For you in particular, you have to do a lot of writing on your app, SAT says you write well but not great. Pro admissions counselor will critique your essays over and over until they are good.

If you’re an URM, then it’s probably good enough. Otherwise, it’s too low. If you don’t get in, you’ll no exactly why.

Ehh, you have a slim chance. Your EC’s are more business/leadership-oriented, which is definitely a good thing, but keep in mind you’re going against applicants who have won major national and international awards in math and science. I wouldn’t mention your personal motto, but if you apply and are interviewed, you can definitely mention it.

MIT has its own business school (Sloan School of Management)…I don’t know much about it but you can look it up if you wish :)
