EFC: 00066 * C
Based on your EFC of 00066, you may be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant of up to $5500 for the 2010-2011 school year.

thats what my fafsa says, last year it was 0 but its 66 this year, so with that said, i should technically qualify for everything schools have to offer right? the difference between 0 and 66 is literally nothing?

just seeing if i have this right because i can actually get my efc down to zero if it will allow me to receive more funds. my parents pension they pulled is what made the efc 66 this year and not zero.

schools im applying to (if it makes a difference) as a transfer are

1.UT
2.A&M
3.TCU
4.Texas Tech

thanks for any and all help!

It can make a difference depending on the school. For instance a lot of schools award SEOG only to students with 0 EFC. At my daughter’s school a 0 EFC means $2,000 in SEOG grant money. A 66 EFC would mean no SEOG. (same at my son’s school but the SEOG max is $200 at his school).

The untaxable part of a SS pension is not reported on FAFSA. But any part that is taxable is reported as part of the AGI.

??

my parents had pulled out a $10k 401k which was taxable, so it was reported on fafsa because it was part of gross adjusted income.

since its a 1 time pension they pulled out i know its possible to have the situation reviewed and the school can go in and edit the fafsa, which would drop my efc to zero without a doubt(already checked). just seeing what others view on the situation is.

Oh, I see. You can ask the school to make a special circumstances adjustment. It is at their discretion whether they do so or not. They do not have to do so. It will probably depend on the circumstances (why they pulled the money out etc).

As I said in my post, a 66 EFC versus a 0 EFC could make a difference if the school has aid that they award based on having a 0 (like the SEOG at my daughter’s school). So it is worth asking.

what a pain, as if its even worth for fafsa to put 66 on there…
