My son is registering for the spring semester and noticed that some classes have the designation “OFFERED ON THE LETTER-GRADE BASIS ONLY” in the class description. Can someone please explain what this means? All classes end up with a letter-grade, so…what’s the difference? He’s at UT.

Thanks

Perhaps it is the case that some classes allow students to PDF (Pass, Grade D, or Fail), and this class does not.

Just a stab. No Pass/Fail?

There are classes out there that are not taken for a grade. Sometimes an institutition allows students to audit a class or to take it on a pass/fail basis.
I would presume that’s the distinction they are trying to make.

I hope that helps you know what question to ask. Have you looked at the school’s Registrar’s Office web site?

Good luck!

Ah, that must be it. He needed to know now because he has a window tonight to change some classes.

Thanks!
