Quickk question!! Answer please!

Im currently attending Moorpark college, CA… I cant get help from the counclors because they dont know what there talking about… anyway, can someone help me with some schools… I want to do architecture and I wanna go to a top school in the East coast… I also like Penn… What requirements/grades/gpa/classes would I need to get into Penn from Moorpark community college??

You would probably need a 4.0 since transferring to colleges of that caliber are even more competitive that the initial undergraduate admissions.

Penn,
I agree with NP, that coming from a CC, you will need to have a high gpa to show that you can do the work at Penn. In addition, architecture is different from other majors in that your portfolio will likely also have a strong influence on admissions.

You should also post this thread on the Architecture major subforum as there are posters there that are more familiar with the various Arch programs in the NE.

So what kind of other universities are good for architecture in the east coast?? Or should I just ask people in the archi threads

MIT has a good architecture (but impossible to get into) and Pratt

I come from a family with architects and I can tell you that unless you go to CalPoly or a school with a very, very specified/strong architecture program, you don’t need to really major in architecture. It’s better to go to graduate school (like UCLA) for that program.

Definitely ask on the Arch forum, there are many posters there that are practicing architects or have kids in Arch programs.

I know a little about Arch programs since my D was thinking about it for a while, it really depends on whether you want a 4 yr BA or BS or a 5 yr BArch. Here are a few possibilities in the NE:

4 yr degrees: Yale, MIT, Princeton, Columbia, Brown/RISD, Middlebury, Tufts, Bowdoin, Wellesley, Barnard, McGill, Smith, NEU (takes 5 yrs but includes three 6 mo coops), UMass-Amherst

5 yr degree: Cornell, CMU, Syracuse

There are a lot more options if you are willing to go outside of the NE.

Sofy is correct, there are many routes to practicing Arch, and you will have to do a MArch if you do a 4 year degree in anything (including Arch).

Also, to build on what entomom said, if you are female and want to major in architecture. transfer to Wellesley then take classes at MIT in architecture (as the Wellesley architecture program is through MIT)

Yaa i mean Ive heard a lot of good things about cal poly but Ive lived in cali for almost 20 years now… I want to experience something different… including studying in the east coast… so what sort of gpa/classes/grades would i need to get into those top archi schools in EC… I wanna do the B.Arch program btw
