My QU junior in the College of Arts and Sciences emailed the Career Center requesting an appointment to discuss her major, potential career paths, internships she should be considering etc and was told that QU does not have anyone in that position but was hoping to have the spot filled this semester. Extremely disappointing response given what we’re paying for tuition. On the web site QU claims to offer individual career advising and counseling session. How can they not have the position staffed?

Because they are having financial troubles.

^^^How do you know that?

She could also maybe talk to a professor in her major. Also she could try contacting the dean of students and ask what they suggest…or talk to the head of career counseling and tell them that she wants to talk to someone who can help her as best as they can.

There are threads in the Quinnipiac University forum that get into some of QU’s recent problems (2013, 2014):

and:

Wow! Thanks.

@Bocadillo We are actively searching to replace the Career Services director for our College of Arts and Sciences, as you said we hope to have it filled within the end of the semester if not sooner. There is no financial reason (as incorrectly posted by another user on this forum) as to why this is vacant.

I would suggest she contact the department chairperson for her major and see if she can set up a meeting with them to discuss the opportunities and options. Our office has also reached out to the Dean’s Office in the College of Arts and Sciences and they would be happy to meet with her as well.

If she is having difficulty finding assistance or needs help please feel free to have her reach out to me and I would be happy to help her out. Thanks,

Paul,

Thank you for taking the time to provide that information, its very helpful.

Outside the school, she could try connections through the QU alumni association (recent as well as older alums) and any relevant professional association (new members chairs, etc.).
