What happened to the quote function (from a previous post)? It seems to have changed.

No it hasn’t. You can’t fully quote the post immediately preceding, but that’s always been the case

Rather than getting hung up on what’s always been, I’ll simply ask what I have to do oquote a previous post in part or in whole. I used to be able to do it with the touch of a symbol but now I can’t. Must be early dementia setting in. 
If I reply directly to you as the next post, the system removes the ability to quote. I suspect that’s because it’s easy for everyone else to see what I’m responding to.
But if I highlight any previous posts (like this), the quote option will appear:
You can’t quote the most recent post in whole, and there is no workaround.You can quote part of the most recent post by highlighting the selection and then hitting "quote "
