Older Wesleyans will be saddened to hear of the passing of John Basinger, the beloved spouse of beloved film historian and Professor Emerita, Jeanine Basinger. Before the invention of the smartphone, students were occasionally surprised that the Basinger’s Pearl Street home number was listed in the Middletown phone book and that John would often be the one who picked up and graciously conveyed messages from anxious students wishing extensions on papers, entry into closed classes or some other “crisis”.
