<p>Novelist Robert Parker, creator of the Spenser series, died of a heart attack on Monday.</p>

<p>Spenser fans–what are you favorite books?</p>
<p>Along with the Spenser series, I got hooked on the Jesse Stone novels. What a great, flawed character trying to redeem himself. Played perfectly by Tom Selleck in the movies.</p>
<p>I never warmed up to the Sunny Randall series. </p>
<p>Still hoping Spenser: For Hire makes it to DVD someday. I read the novels and in my mind see Robert Urich and Avery Brooks. They also were perfect casting.</p>
<p>MADad- my Dad loves the Parker books and I have read a few. Was that old Spenser for hire show the same Spenser??? I will have to look for it on syndication to see it with a whole new perspective. </p>
<p>I am reading one of my Dad’s Spenser books tonight!</p>
<p>Jesse Stone was one of my favorites. I guess he’ll never really get over his wife now.</p>
<p>I heard he died while writing. Perfect ending. (Although way too soon.)</p>
<p>I have read every Spenser, Jesse Stone, and Sunny Randall book. As soon as a new one is available, I devour it. I will miss all of Robert B. Parker’s wonderful characters. RIP.</p>
<p>I’m sorry to hear this. I also enjoyed his books. And I loved the way he dedicated each of them to his wife, Joan.</p>

<p>My H introduced me to Parker and Spenser when we were dating; I once stood in line to get Parker’s autograph as a gift for H. We’ve read all of his books, but never loved Jesse Stone or Sunny Randall the way we loved Spenser and Susan. I just might start at the beginning and re-read all the Spenser books.</p>
<p>I will miss him as well. Loved Jesse Stone & Spenser; couldn’t warm up to Sunny Randall - I don’t think he wrote women quite as well as he wrote men (Susan Silverman notwithstanding).</p>

<p>I am also very sorry to hear this. H and I have read all the Spenser books over the years. I’ve enjoyed ALL of his books, he had a wonderful way with dialogue. I was looking forward to more westerns and I thoroughly enjoyed “Appaloosa”, the book and the movie.</p>
<p>Nice idea to start at the beginning and read all the Spenser books again. A fitting tribute to an author who has brought so much enjoyment to my life.</p>

<p>The pilot for Spenser: For Hire was based on the 4th book in the series, Promised Land. Spenser, Hawk, Belson, Quirk, various hoods, etc. they were all there. Susan was in seasons 1 and 3, Rita Fiore was Spenser’s love interest in season 2.</p>
