RA positions?

My son was accepted ED to Lehigh and he is thrilled. We are a family who has been borderline FA so we are really struggling to pay the steep tuition/room/bd at some of the more expensive schools in the country. I have an older daughter who is a RA at her school and that has really helped us financially…

How competitive are the RA positions at Lehigh (I believe they are called Gryphons) and can freshman apply for their sophomore year?

Thanks!

Getting a job as a Gryphon is fairly competitive. This year, about 60% of the applicants were accepted. As long as your son has good grades, gets himself involved (but not too involved!), and doesn’t have any problems like citations he should be ok though – he just needs to have a good interview. You can apply to be a Gryphon as a rising sophomore, too.

Thanks for the info! My older daughter is an RA at a smaller school where most upperclass students live on campus so as an RA she does not feel at all isolated from her classmates. Since most Juniors and Seniors live off campus at Lehigh does that make it difficult for the Gryphons to stay connected with their classmates?

As a senior, I don’t think that I have a problem seeing my friends who are gryphons on campus even though I live off campus. You see them during clubs etc and it is like maintaining any other friendship, you make it work. There are so many places to live of campus that are sometimes further away than the people living on campus that it is really not a big deal.
