<p>So last weekend I saw “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and I really liked it; though, I’m just wondering how students at conservative schools like Holy Cross at Wheaton would view it - the film itself is very strong and liberal, I’m assuming. Though, I loved it because it was real and because it was passionate. How would conservatives view it?</p>
<p>Holy Cross is actually not conservative at all. quite liberal especially among Catholic colleges.</p>

<p>That’s hard to say because there’s a wide swath of “conservatives.” There are some folks who’d recognize it for what it is: a movie. There are some folks who’d find it offensive. Some who’d find it boring. Etc.</p>
<p>I dunno, I think the racy parts of the movie were done in an artistic way…yeah it was a little gratuitous but I didn’t see it as a “liberal” movie. Maybe I’m biased or something because I guess I’m not very conservative (although I don’t like political labels very much) but I thought those scenes were necessary to tell the story. I know lots of people would disagree with me, though, which is fine.</p>

<p>I mean, it definitely deserved the rating of R, but it was a well done movie. I didn’t feel like the sex scenes were just there for added entertainment. They served a real and true part of the story. It made you really feel for Lisbeth when you see her get raped and then you see her happy. The contrast is very good and realistic.</p>
<p>For what it’s worth, I’m a very conservative Christian girl, and I enjoyed the movie.</p>
<p>I also found it interesting how the main character disagreed with his daughter about religion. I didn’t think the film spoke either way about it and I definitely did not find it offensive.</p>

<p>I ask many strange questions. I had one pertaining to something that’s probably not appropriate for this forum, but I don’t want to risk any misunderstadings. Basically, I’m a sheltered person who gets shocked by many things that others would consider to be commonplace, and I ask many stupid, dumb questions.</p>
<p>I didn’t watch it but I wouldn’t imagine it being liberal. As a conservative that goes to a school thats 50/50, we really don’t care what a movie like this shows, unless its a Michael Moore film lol. But the thing that really gets us angry is when we have a liberal teacher who constantly indoctrinates us in his/her ideologies about how America is evil, how our system is the worst in the world, how communism would work, etc. It gets really annoying and you really can’t get on their bad side and speak out because it might have negative effects on your grade</p>
<p>If a conservative person doesn’t like a movie due to their own views, they don’t know how to view movies. No film is conservative or liberal. They are all fictitious accounts of stories. They aren’t real. Is it right for a rape victim to exact revenge upon her rapist? That doesn’t matter in a movie. What matters is that the movie remain true to that character. If the character is the type to do it, the movie will show it. If not, then it won’t happen in the movie.</p>
<p>That’s not the point: If people can’t identify with or admire the characters in a movie, they won’t enjoy watching it, and if people are disgusted by graphic content, they will prefer not to watch movies that contain it.</p>
