they were the perfect blend of humor and political commentary. Sleep well, Tom Smothers.
Consider my hand raised.
RIP
My mom still has some of their albums
My entire family loved watching the Smothers Brothers. Their show was a lot of fun (even if my dad would grimace at their political stuff from time to time … but at least he was okay with us watching it).
Not sure which brother had a fusion Italian Chinese restaurant in Aspen that did not last long but was delicious. 1990’s or 2000’s?
I loved listening to them as a young teen. They were hilarious and talented. They brought a lot of joy to a lot of people in their lifetime.
And they had two TV shows…Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, and Smothers Brothers Show.
Me too! May his memory be a blessing to his loved ones.
Loved them as a young kid. So funny. I was furious when they got cancelled
I remember. I little jolting to see the title and think this was just a “do you remember” and not a “RIP” thread.
A couple of days ago my sons and I were discussing Steve Martin - one is watching Only Murders and one was watching The Jerk - and they read from Wikipedia that he was a writer on something called The Smothers Brothers and asked had I ever heard of it. I remember watching it as a kid.
Brilliant comedic mind and outstanding delivery.
I have occasionally noticed that comedians frequently get to live a bit longer than average.
This might be a hint for the rest of us!
It’s why H & I go to local comedy shows weekly!
It was a great show. Introduced lots of great music. It’s where I first heard Joan Baez and a host of others. It always amused me that they looked so straitlaced, but clearly politically they were pretty far to the left, constantly pushing the boundries.
Both Tommy & Dick were amazing comedians and then Tommy had a skill with yo-yos.
Tommy was very good friends with John Lennon & Yoko Ono, and was present during their “love in” -
RIP Tommy.
Mom always liked you best…
Raising my hand…. with some happy memories plus a bit of sadness.
Yes, I do. RIP Tom, and thank you for the memories.
Just reading this thread is bringing back some memories.
Rob Reiner also amongst others. Good comedy that raised awareness.
Rob Reiner tweeted “We loved you best, Tommy” yesterday, and I immediately heard “Mom always liked you best” in Tommy’s voice - I had no idea I had that memory stored, but it was a blessing to call it up again.
