right now i’m taking the kaplan SAT class and got this strategy book called raise your score even more but i heard Maximum SAT is really great and i want to buy it so i’m wondering if it’s worth it to read this kaplan book or to just chuck it and buy Maximum SAT?

In my opinion all SAT books are helpful, no matter which publisher. It’s good to get info from different perspectives.

I tried Princeton Review, Barrons, and Kaplan. I’d suggest you don’t get rid of Kaplan because it has really good answer explanations (my book is called SAT Premier Program 2008 edition, cost $35, includes a CD, but you can also get it from the library). So far I haven’t bothered to read it from chapter one but started from the end, working on full-length practice tests. The Critical Reading and Writing sections are ok but the Math section is VERY easy (so you might wanna get a look in another book). Just today I found a question that said “100+x=100, what is x?” lol, I doubt something like that would come up on the actual test :)

Also, Barrons has much harder questions… As for the Maximum SAT - don’t waste money on it if you already have Kaplan, see if your local library has that book.

Good luck on SAT, hope this helped.

lol i hated the kaplan raise your score, in fact i hated the class as well. the best method to study is practice

Hi, mnsophomore, your screen name caught my notice because I’m guessing we might be in the same state. You can save money and enjoy your studying more (and probably end up with a higher score) by reading for fun throughout the summer and taking GENUINE, not fake, SAT practice tests. The source of genuine tests is the College Board Blue Book

and in my opinion it is counterproductive to buy anything else. Read, read, read, and READ all summer, and whenever you can during the school year, and you will get better on all sections of the SAT.

P.S. My computer shows that the Hennepin County Library has copies of the Blue Book available for check-out now. Other libraries in Minnesota should have it too, and you can get it from any of those through interlibrary loan if need be.

Good luck in your preparation and in your eventual college applications.
