Hello, i am currently a senoir and took the sat junior year three times…my highest one so far is only a 1430…i’ve been studying since last year on and off and over the summer. I’ve been doing practice tests, but for some reason I feel as if im losing my confidence, as if I can’t do it. I do pretty well on my practice tests, and to prepfor the reading section i have been reading John Grisham. For the math, I am just cranking out math sections and studying what I mainly get wrong, and for writing i’ve been studying grammar rules. I had to study on and off during the summer, do to family tragedy and extracurricular events, Is it possible for me to raise my score to at least an 1800?
Well, reading some of the guides on CC such as:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/955109-silverturtles-guide-to-sat-and-admissions-success.html#latest for tips on the SAT overall.
Then this link for CR:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/750399-how-to-attack-the-sat-critical-reading-section-effectively.html
For writing you can use this link:http://www.thecriticalreader.com/complete-sat-grammar-rules/ it includes all the writing rules test on the SAT.
For math just make sure to memorize all the formulas needed, which you can find in Grubers, which you could probably download a pdf version online. Also, if you look hard enough there are tons of websites with past SATs with the answers/explanations included.
Anyways, just make sure to take as many practice test as possible and ALWAYS review over the answers you got wrong and try to understand why you got it wrong. For CR, I think along with reviewing over the questions you get wrong look up and study the words used in the section that you don’t know. This is actually a helpful tip for any kind of reading, but yeah.
Also, you could use direct hits if you wanted to. all you have to do is go on google and type in Direct Hits sat core vocabulary pdf and you should be able to download a a pdf version on iBooks or something.
Actually here is another link that was recently made for studying for the SAT:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/1803020-how-i-got-a-2300-for-old-sat.html#latest
Anyways I hope that was helpful. Sorry for responding super late. Also, I believe you can raise your score maybe not 400 points, but I think if you set your mind to it you can get a score above average. But, getting an 1800 isn’t too hard,at least in my opinion. Also, when you take practice tests do not feel discouraged if you do poorly on a few tests as long as you properlyreview over the questions you get wrong your score should go up. How much who knows, but at least your trying.
Good Luck!!!
