Raking, shoveling, mowing: which is your favorite activity?

I enjoy being outside the most while raking but the activity itself seems never-ending: every day for at least a month.

Mowing is smelly, so shoveling and raking are more enjoyable. I love the fall colors so raking is my favorite of the three.

I moved south so I wouldn’t have to shovel. (I always thought it was a good workout, but my doctor told me it was particularly dangerous). Mowing would have to be my least favorite, so I pay someone to do it. When I was unemployed I bought a push mower to save money, but that lasted about 2 weeks. Raking is somewhat nostalgic, but it seems like a waste of time because as soon as you finish, more leaves come down. Never-ending is accurate, but every day?? Besides, the landscapers do that too.

None of the above. I’m very lucky to have found a wonderful yard maintenance company. The owner lives nearby and is always happy to take on extra jobs. I did most of our yard work for the first half of our marriage, but all I’ve done since is plant flowers and even that job is now usually done by my yard guys.

Have given up all three since our move to Florida. Here it is far too hot (and humid) to enjoy mowing. No snow. Seasonal raking in spring from our live oaks- tried one year and now let lawn care guys do it. Makes a difference when you have to bag leaves versus a pile at the curb. Snow removal could be fun but I remember it getting old quickly when there were many snowfalls in a short time period. Also, it needs to be done NOW, whereas the other two can be done another day (for awhile at least). They all can be an excuse to be outdoors and enjoy the season.

NONE!!!

We have someone else to mow and there is no need for shoveling or raking. But if the three, raking sounds the best to me.

Love the smell of freshly mowed grass-- but that’s summer and hot/humid here. Winter is too cold to “enjoy” shoveling. But I did like watching DH and the kids do it. Have a lawn co to rake, this year, mow next year, and I hope, from now on. I can admire the leaves without feeling the need to wrassle them. Favorite winter thing is looking out the window in the wee hours at the snow, all quiet and pure.

None. We hire someone to mow (very large grassy yard), and get rid of the leaves in the fall…and then clean up in the spring.

we have a snowblower, but DH does that. I’ll do some of it…but to say it is a “favorite” is a stretch.

I rake every day in season because I’m a small person, it’s a big yard, and there are a lot of trees.

The frustration of having to do it multiple times would get to me. In fact, I did clean out leaves from the front garden and rake the worst out of the backyard, last weekend. Then the winds picked up and it’s all a mess again. My yard is small. One year I just laid out a large piece of birdcloth (netting) in back and just needed to lift it up,once the trees were bare.

But I get that you take pleasure in this, rosered55.

I live in Ca so no shoveling here. For the most part I don’t have any leaves to take. I do hate that the eucalyptus trees have a disease that certain times of the year cause the leaves to fall on my driveway. My gardeners blow them but they annoy me. No mowing since with the continued drought my grass is all dead. Actually the drought has resulted in much less yard work. I wouldn’t recommend it.

My favorite activity is reading a good book while our landscape maintenance company mows, rakes and shovels!

None, sold the house and bought a condo.

My favorite activity is to watch my building maintenance team shoveling the sidewalk while I am all cozy in my apartment.

Dealing with leaves is rapidly turning from my least nonfavorite to my least favorite: I have raked nine tarps’ worth of leaves this morning, trimmed bushes so I could get at more, and very carefully balanced the ladder on my uneven driveway so I could clean out the gutters.

We have a guy who mows and rakes and who does a big end of season raking of all the beds and yard and does big spring clean-up too - but I love being outside in nice weather so will rake, pick up twigs, etc., just to be outside.

My backyard is completely covered in leaves right now because it’s been too wet (we even had snow on Thursday!) for guy to come…

I never shovel.

Sold the house last year, but I did like snow blowing if it wasn’t windy (too cold & snow blows in your fave then).

I used to love raking and shoveling. Crisp, cool air, a chance to be outside.

Easy to say now when I do neither.

Mowing.
