Random acts of kindness

Thank you…to the strangers in the airplane who heard my dear friend receive the news that her brother had just died…Thank you. Thank you for helping her, listening…Thank you.

Thank you to the woman at Taco Bell who bought lunch for the soldier behind her yesterday. It brought the spirit of Christmas alive for me to witness her kindness.

Thank you to the stranger that left a Christmas card with iTunes gift card on the windshield of my friend’s car yesterday. The note in the card explained that this was one of twenty-six acts of kindness in memory of those killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Stories like this inspire me to be a better person.

Thank you to the man ahead of my coworker in the McDonald’s drive through last week who paid for her coffee and breakfast. She is having a rough time–her mom is gravely ill and does not have much time left–and he will probably never know what a bright spot in her day his kindness was.

Heck…it brightened my day just hearing about it from her.

Thank you to the homeroom teacher who bought my student sneakers (I teach an afterschool program). I didn’t think they’d fit, since they looked about 2 sizes bigger than the ones on his feet. But he quickly put them on and they fit perfectly. Turns out, the shoes he had been wearing are 2-3 sizes too big.

Thank you to the strangers that paid for my sister’s meal at Taco Bell and left a note, asking her to just pay it forward. My sister did just that, paying for the car behind her.
