After the Coldplay fiasco, NFL reporter Diana Russini was caught on camera holding hands with someone she covers - at the pool. She and Coach Vrabel says it’s innocent. Of course, as a reporter, where is the line drawn. And she’s been accused in the past (not proven) of providing sexual favors - maybe for info.
She’s resigned but of course says there’s nothing there.
Did she cross a line ? Personally, I never thought she had a good name after the last allegations - but should she be ruined for this? Is her cred gone?

Oh, my gosh - I feel this! There are self storage places everywhere. My SIL has a 2,500 square foot house that has a basement, plus she rents two air conditioned storage units. Yikes!

From today’s WJS “10 point” email, a college hunting entry. Just a few weeks ago we had family member touring the local CU Boulder campus, and I (a NY transplant) told them something that I’ve said a lot over the years: it would be interesting to compare yield rate for accepted out-of-state visitors based on weather on their tour day. Campus perception would be totally different say on a Feb sunny/60s day (I call it “winter respite weather”) vs a April blizzard day (which happens sometimes).

Researchers at Amherst College found that poor weather on a campus visit reduces a student’s likelihood of applying—and the impact is notable, according to a study published by the National Bureau of Economic Research. Applications dipped 10.1% when a tour was hot and 5.9% when it was cold, relative to moderate temperatures. They also dipped 8.3% when there was precipitation and 4.9% when it was cloudy, compared with sunny days.

Not sure where to post this. One one hand, this is very cool… on the other hand, it is scary what countries could do with it. Terminators aren’t far away.
Last year the winning robot was 2:30 min. This year 50 mins - almost 10 min faster than the world record. And now almost half run themselves without remote controls. That kind of progress in just 1 year

Wow, interesting.
So… on my technology wishlist for elderly care is invention/perfection of an AI controlled robot that can gently and hygienically change diapers for patients in rehab, nursing home etc. If anybody has kids involved with campus research, spread the word

Maybe news of this vaccine was posted here or elsewhere on CC, but I don’t recall it. This is such (hopefully) good news.
My neighbor has been battling pancreatic cancer and is now 2 years past his 9 months-left diagnosis. I’m so encouraged by science that seeks to find cures for incurable diseases (or at least buys those affected additional time on earth).

According to the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office, Jonathan and Jolene Harms have been found guilty of 60 counts related to stalking, witness intimidation, and threats involving several victims on their “kill list.”
Their last name is “Harms?”

Good morning. It’s so rare that I can come to you with good news. But here’s some now.
The rate of suicides among young people in the United States has dropped 11 percent below projections since the rollout of 988, the national suicide prevention hotline. It dropped even more significantly in states with the highest numbers of calls, according to a new study that Ellen Barry, who covers mental health, wrote about this week. Nearly 4,400 adolescents and young adults are alive, we think, because of the program.
The Department of Health and Human Services introduced 988 in July 2020 with bipartisan support and a $1.5 billion investment for the crisis centers that field calls. (It replaced a 10-digit hotline number.) And it appears to be working……

If your parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent was born in Canada, you may already be a Canadian citizen. Canada’s new citizenship law — Bill C-3, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act — has permanently removed the first-generation limit that previously prevented Canadian citizenship from passing beyond one generation born outside Canada. For Americans with Canadian ancestry, the implications are enormous.

Under the new law, citizenship now flows through multiple generations for anyone born before the law came into force. There is no generational limit for past births. If you can trace an unbroken line of descent to a Canadian citizen — whether that is your parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, or even further back — you may now be recognized as a Canadian citizen at birth.
Our son notified me of this recent change in Canadian Citizenship Act which makes him a Canadian citizen, too. While he holds the security clearance he does, the Army restricts him from any “citizenship affirming action,” but he said he’ll probably pursue once he leaves the military. I claimed my Canadian citizenship (father was born in Canada) in 2021. Once I had my registration number, obtaining a passport was straightforward.
Basically, the new relaxed rules are the 23-and-Me of citizenship. If there’s a sneaky Canadian hiding somewhere in your family tree — VOILA! You are Canadian, too. And you don’t need to spit.

I saw this and am considering it! My Canadian ancestor is several generations back and was American, just born in Canada while the family was living there (though maybe her father was Canadian? Unclear) so it will take some researching. When I have time to focus.
