If I put a properly stamped letter in my home mailbox, will it get posted? Will they treat it the same way as they would a letter that was put in a blue federal mailbox?

Thanx

Thanx

Yes, that’s what the (usually) red flag is for…to put up when you have outgoing mail.

I don’t have the red flag on my mailbox. I have one of those mailbox that’s attached to a wall.

i don’t think they actually look into the mailboxes in walls. they just put stuff in it, and don’t take stuff out. that would be ridiculously time consuming seeing as how not everyone checks there box everyday and mail can pile up. if you have a box in the wall then there should be an “outgoing” box as well. or at least a mailbox thing around.

Yeah, just take whatever it is to the post office.

ok…thanks for the responses

I have a mailbox that’s on the wall. We just stick the outgoing mail up so the mailman can see it. He always takes it as long as he can see it.

Note: In some more urban areas, the mailman doesn’t take outgoing mail…even if he/she knows it’s outgoing because they don’t have a system for that.

Same here. We’ve been doing this in my family ever since I can remember and I didn’t even find out that most people take it to the post office or drop it off in a blue mail box when they’re mailing things. I ended up looking it up on the USPS website and they said that as long as the mailman can see it and it has the proper postage, they’re required to take in the letter/package.

sarcasmgirl, although i personally believe, you, if i had a wall mounted mailbox, i would definitely personally deliver the letters to the post office or the blue box.

bver100, I agree with you 100% on that because it’s definitely safer, but due to my family’s laziness and tendency to procrastinate, we just go with the easier route. :)

wow, so you’ve never mailed a letter before…WoW

here, for almost every kind of home mailbox there is:

I’ve never used the ones that are off of the street, but I guess you do something with the flag or whatever to say that you’re mailing something

For the slot ones that go right into your house, where the flap is that you open, stick the envelope where its hanging out past some of that flap, as in, if you walked up to the door, you would see it hanging out some

For the ones that are little boxes attached to a house, there are sometimes little racks that you put the letter on. If you dont want it to blow away, than you might want to consider taking it to the blue box instead, but if you have the box thing that has a lid, do the same kind of thing that you would do with the slot mail boxes, have it hang out some.

Dont worry, I mail my dad bout twice a month, and by best friend about once a week…I have NEVER had a problem putting them in the home boxes.

sanluisfreak, are you from st. Louis, missouri? Because that’s where I live. just curious

nah, neither…its a long story, but my name origionates from this place that i was kidnapped and taken to, the san luis valley, in colorado. Most beautiful plcae i have ever been to in my life. I swear to god, I’m getting my nursing degree and heading straight back there to finish what i started…long story, like i said

anyways, neither, its named after the san luis valley: www.colomtland.com

what? you were kidnapped? so sad!!! how old were you when it happened?

Sad? Heh, you think I’m going back to the san luis valley to visit some bad memories? It was the best thing to ever happen to me! 'Course, it was the only chance I really ever had to be with my dad, so maybe that says something.

anyways, I was 6. It lasted for 2 mos, from the end of the michigan school year (like june 10-20) to exactly august 13, 1998. Havent seen my dad since, and dont get to see him until 2009

I have a mailbox on the wall… we stick it up, or attach it to the outside (usually with a clothspin, lol), and it gets mailed perfectly fine.
