Random Math Topics You've Seen Asked About on the ACT That One Should Review

I think we should make a list of random math topics to review before the ACT, because you’ve seen a question on it. I don’t mean topics that there are multiple questions on, like circles, functions, and algebra, but things that don’t come up a lot but could during the test. For example, I saw one question on even/odd functions, and one on shape reflections.

Add on stuff you’ve seen.

[P=>Q] <=> [~Q=>~P]

a.k.a. say this statement is true:
If do poorly on my ACT, then I will rip up my score report.
then “flip and negate”
If I don’t rip up my score report, then I didn’t do poorly on my ACT.
in math terms, the two statements have the same “truth value.” This is called a contrapositive.

The term ! means factorial. For example 100! = 100 * 99 * 98 … * 3 * 2 * 1

I don’t get this:
[P=>Q] <=> [~Q=>~P]

He means P>Q = -Q>-P

Flip and negate.

If I poop, then I’ll be relieved = If I’m not relieved, then I didn’t poop.

wait do u also change the sign symbol from > to => ?
lik: He means P>Q = -Q=>-P

I’m sorry to confuse everyone. P => Q simply means “P implies Q” or “If P, then Q.” The symbol <=> means “if and only if,” which is roughly the same as an equals sign. Don’t understand the symbols, they won’t test it. Just get what the words mean.

Flip and negate!
If you read this then I will have confused you even more.
If you are not confused more then you didn’t read this.

have the same “truth”

oh ok gotcha!

Has anyone ever seen any questions on logs/ln/e on ACT practice tests or the real thing???

Thanks.

Logs, yes, but they’re basic, like “solve for x if log(base x)8 = 3.”

how about imaginary numbers?

No imaginary numbers, but I have seen more complicated logs than that.

I hadn’t yet studied logs when I took the test, so I just guessed and moved on to the next question.
