Random Musing

So I woke up this morning, with the following topic in my head. I have to leave for school in a few minutes, so I can’t write anything in detail, but it’s consumed my mind this morning so I thought some of you might enjoy thinking about the topic today too…

Abstract:
When you move up to the next level in your life, be it academically, athletically, socially, or otherwise, there is an initial feeling of satisfaction and glee in the accomplishment. But once you get past the newness of your situation, you start to really see your new peers and their gifts and how they may have so much more than you or at least you perceive their different talents that way. For most of us this point of realizing your mediocrity and trying to achieve more than what your peers have will be where most of our time is spent. Eventually you achieve more and their accomplishments don’t seem out of reach, but by that time, you’re moving to a new level to start it all again.

Concepts where I might go with this:
Circle/Slinky/Pyramid - possible use of these as metaphors
Mediocrity – driven to excellence vs driven to drugs/alcohol
Achievement and Satisfaction/Discontent with realizing their is always someone better
Simplicity - Like the Quaker song - 'Tis a gift to be simple
Big Fish-Small Pond; Little Fish- Big Pond
Furthering of the Species
Perception of our space in the world
Dissatisfaction as a driving force

Perhaps this doesn’t directly relate to prep school, but I think prep school and the whole admissions process has me thinking this way.
