Random thoughts

I am randomly thinking about what it would be like to sit, and do absolutely nothing. Not think about what I should be doing, what I could have done, budgets and bills…just enjoy the moment. Is such a thing possible in this life? Will I be retired before it happens?

Go find a nice grassy spot outside, lie down, and look up at the trees, sky, and clouds.

What type of people have we become when a person can get hit by a car and no one helps? (Referring to 78 year old hit and run, and onlookers did nothing.)

Corranged, I would worry about fire ants, lol. :)

Watched scenes of the flooding in Wisconsin on the news this A.M. I hope that our CC friends in the mid-west are not in the affected areas. Seeing houses just slide into the river and float away was heartbreaking.

Do you moms get your H a gift for Father’s Day? I had coffee with a group of friends yesterday and we discussed this - it was about evenly split. I have always given my H a gift on Father’s Day, usually a book and some of his favorite coffee.

Just saw a commercial for yet another reality series called The Baby Borrowers. Five teen couples are each given a baby to care for! The ‘byline’ is “it’s not tv, it’s birth control”.

^^^ Couldn’t Kate and Jon plus Eight also have that byline " it’s not tv, it’s birth control " LOL, actually giving teens a baby to care for is brilliant TV-hope it runs on MTV.

Update- The Duggers are expecting their 18th child this January…makes you wonder doesn’t it.

It’s been very ‘mushy’ here in the Midwest, and today is the first time I’ve turned off the AC since turning it on Friday. It’s finally 70 degrees with very comfortable humidity. Unfortunately, this all comes about three days too late. We had D1’s graduation party Saturday. I’d spent a fortune getting the yard rehauled - it looked the best it had since we had all the landscaping done seven years ago. Guests managed to get in about two games of bags in between passing storms, and of course, no one was able to swim (even though we had the pool heated to a nice 78 degrees). But no one was really able to appreciate the beauty of the yard.

Then around 8PM, about 3/4 of us headed down to our basement when we came under a tornado warning. The other 1/4 decided to stand outside and ‘watch’ for the tornado (mostly men). Sure enough, one touched down less than two miles from here, but caused no damage. Now that’s party excitement I could have done without. I know lots of people were having graduation parties this weekend, so it kind of stunk. But the food was awesome (smoked ribs on our Big Green Egg), and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

at the risk of offending LOTS of people, when I hear about someone with 18 kids I always think to myself “religious or stupid?” Has to be one or the other!

I’m only offended because you didn’t list “both” as an option.

Hey, they’re happy, the kids appear to be happy and healthy. Why criticize them?

Random internship story…

S1’s g/f is doing an internship in International Auditing with an oil company this summer and is in Azerbaijan. The governor of our state is there, along with his wife, for a meeting of some kind. Yesterday, the gov’s wife saw g/f wearing her t-shirt from state u and stopped and chatted with her for awhile. Then she invited g/f to have dinner with her tonight! We thought it was a sweet gesture for the gov’s wife to do that. It’ll sure be something g/f will have fun telling about after the summer’s over.

teri- ok, you may not have memories of the ‘perfect’ graduation party (hey, they tornado could have been 2 miles closer!), but you do have one of the best long lasting after party effects-
A beautiful backyard, for YOU (and, your family) to enjoy
I say money well spent…

FYI- the Duggers another TV reality show- and, you are right ebeeee they are extremely religious. So are KandJplus8, but they downplay it on the show, Duggers do not!

teri, I’m sorry that all the hard work of getting the yard ready for the grad party was overshadowed by the rotten weather. Thank goodness the tornado wasn’t closer. I had to smile at your “mostly men” stormwatcher comment -why is that not a surprise?! You and your guests will have memories of that party for a long time.

timely, hope that son’s g/f’s dinner with the governor’s wife went well. I bet it was a nice evening for both of them.

The day has started off well here. The awful humidity that has been anchored here since late last week finally appears to be moving on, and I got two new recipes from a friend. This is a treat for me because I get so tired of making the same dishes over and over.

Evidently J&K+8 will be on the Today show tomorrow morning.

OK, I actually watched a J&K+8 episode the other night because there was absolutely nothing else on. With no offense to any other posters on this thread, I don’t get it. What is so interesting about that show? More to the point, why is it even a show? I honestly don’t mean to sound rude or start an argument – as I said, I just don’t get it. My 2 cents.

I watch it faithfully and I honestly couldn’t answer that for you. I wish I knew.

I’m in total agreement with zoosermom. I can’t explain it either! I will even admit to having watched certain episodes more than once.

S1’s g/f had a great time with the governor’s wife yesterday. It was quite exciting. Someone from her staff called g/f’s room and said “The first lady has requested your presence at dinner if you are available.” Then a big burly security guard came up to her room to get her. She rode in an entourage of 3 black bmw’s and the street was blocked off. They went to a nice restaurant and there were 2 other ladies there, too. She said she had a fabulous time!

Wow! What a great thing to happen.

What a nice experience for the gf!

I always used to tell my son, re: manners–“you never know if you’ll be dining w/a head of state someday…” [not that it served as much of a motivation…]

CBBlinker , some shows are better than others, and I was like you the first time after my sister told me about it - give it a few episodes- some shows are like that.

Timely - congrats on g/f’s adventure
